PRESS RELEASE (JUNE 2010)
IATC Offers New Turkish Delights to UK Agri-Technology Companies
UK agri-technology companies and organisations that want to expand their international activities in the fresh produce sector are being invited to a free “Introduction to Turkey” seminar in July.
Organised by the International Agri-Technology Centre (IATC), the event will also include an opportunity for face-to-face meetings with visiting Turkish delegates from the fresh produce sector who are keen to find keen to find new business partners here, with particular emphasis on food safety & certification, cold chain logistics, packaging technologies and greenhouse innovations.
With Turkey poised to become a candidate for EU accession, the upgrading of agriculture, food and fisheries is a priority there.
“Turkey is one of our target markets, because it offers such enormous opportunities for UK enterprises. It is a significant producer of fresh produce and has a wide and varied agricultural production base,” said IATC adviser Laura Stubbs.
Ms Stubbs said the IATC had arranged a five-day visit programme in July for a business delegation from Turkey to explore what Britain has to offer and to seek out potential business relationships and joint venture initiatives.
“
Turkey has the potential to become the winter garden of Europe and Turkish agri-food companies recognise the need to upgrade their technologies and improve food safety to reach their aspirations to tap into the UK market,” said Guliz Kiymaz, Trade & Investment Manager, UK Trade & Investment, Turkey.
“This Fresh Produce Inward Mission brings together a good selection of Turkish producers and offers a unique opportunity to UK agri-technology businesses to market their products and services directly to the decision makers.” They will all be available for pre-arranged meetings with UK companies after the seminar at the Campden BRI site in Gloucestershire on July 19.
The IATC, which has been contracted by Advantage West Midlands and UK Trade & Investment to promote and support the UK’s agri-technology industry, has developed a special expertise to help companies that want to do business in Turkey, by providing detailed information about the markets there, as well as other essential information.
